I LOVE Surprises!!

I love surprises and especially when I get to be on the planning end. I've been fortunate enough to be a part of some really great surprise parties and the thing that makes them so great is the true look of shock and bewilderment on the surprised person's face. This has been the case at the party for our friends Jeremy and Shelley (Swadeka!), my mom's 50th birthday party (she's still the most beautiful woman I know), Jonathan and KC's engagement party, Brandon and Crystal's baby shower, my own engagement party (I got to be the one surprised on that one - thank you Robbie, it was perfect!) and now another party to add to the list - Debbie Morales's Surprise Retirement Party. The word of the evening from her mouth was simply "AMAZING!" She couldn't believe that all the people were there for her and Holiday Flowers. We will miss the beautiful store and business that she worked so hard at, but we will be celebrating with her that she was able to make so many friends and long-lasting memories from the shop.
Congratulations Debbie - Happy Retirement!
These are all some co-workers at Holiday Flowers from past to present!

Mmm, Tasty!

Abigail had her first try of rice cereal on Saturday! She has been really eyeing our food whenever we have it near her or when we're putting things into our mouth. She just stares and then opens her mouth too. So, we decided it was time to give her some solids. She took to it quite well and she did an ok job trying to keep it in her mouth. She now likes to smack her mouth all the time, like she does when she's trying to figure out swallowing. I'm not looking forward to the new diapers I'll be changing though ;)

Making an "announcement"

So, making our baby announcements took forever and then we got them out so stinkin' late. I hope everyone who is reading this has received one and if you haven't, then please let us know and we will drop one in the mail for you. They turned out great...I had a lot of fun designing them and making them. I had even more fun taking Abigail's photos...back when she was 2 months old. Can you believe it?...and now she's almost 6 months old. So, sorry they were so late...

I found a comic that was perfect for this post...

An exciting surprise...

We were so excited to be surprised by our friend Brandon when he showed up at church this morning. For a fleeting moment I thought perhaps his plans to go to Iraq were canceled and he was coming home already. But unfortunately that was not the case...he was just in San Diego before he leaves. Either way, sorry Crystal and Austin, but we were stoked see him here!! He got his baby fix with Abigail - but we know nothing compares to his own true love, Austin (and Crystal of course...but I was speaking babies). We miss you Barnetts!!

PS - Of course the one time I forget my camera is the time when I need it the most! So this was taken with Robbie's phone...

Teeth, Feet, & Giggles

Abigail has been loads of fun lately! She's been "talking" non stop and has turned up her volume to a high pitched squeal, which she is constantly and strongly encouraged to do by daddy. I guess it's a daddy-daughter thing to do or something. Robbie starts it and then Abby copies - back and forth like that for a while. It's so cute!! But Robbie's favorite thing is to make her giggle. He just rubs his face against her belly and she giggles away.

She has also found new entertaining things that are always with her. She has found her own feet and she loves to pull on her little toes. It's quite entertaining for us too, to watch her swing her legs up and down and catching her feet 70% of the time.

So, I know it may be too early to assume that the little girl is teething, but ever since 4 months rolled around, she has been drooling, putting her hands in her mouth, and chomping down on anything that she can get a grip on. She loves the teething ring! I have a lot of friends who tell me that it can take a couple months before the actual tooth breaks through, so you never know...

Mommy Depot

Oh...I can't believe I almost forgot to post this. I saw the most hilarious, yet innovative idea at the San Diego County Fair when we went last week. There was a mommy vending machine. Can you believe it? It's a great idea...however, one diaper was like $3. They must be making bank if moms are actually using it. But there were onsies, socks, formula, bibs, etc. Crazy funny!

A Few Friar Fans

The long week of preparations are finally over, for our annual "Breakfast with the Padres" event at our church. Green Valley Church works so hard on it and it was a huge success. Abigail had to show off her new outfit to show how much of a fan she is of the Padres (even if their season hasn't been so hot so far). She also had fun playing with one of her buddies, Isaiah!

How do you say Aunt & Uncle in Korean?

Well Abby's Aunt KC and Uncle Jonathan will soon be able to tell her how to say aunt and uncle in Korean. They left to go live in Korea to teach English for a year. They left a little over a week ago and they will be fully emersed in Korean culture for the next year. We will miss them, but we will be checking in on them constantly through their blogging (kcandjonathan.com), which is how I stumbled on this picture of Abigail trying to steal their passport and stow away in their suitcase (KC - I've been waiting to blog so I can include those pictures).

We went to the Wight house!

No I didn't spell the title wrong...we indeed visited the Wight house...home of my best friend, Amy Wight's family. Amy and her boyfriend Sol were in town visiting her parents and they got to meet Abigail for the first time. What an exciting time!! Love you Amy!! Not only did she get to meet some pretty awesome people, but she also got to dip in their pool, experiencing her very first swimming lesson with daddy. She was hesitant at first, but no cries and fussing, and later LOTS of smiles, giggles, and cooing!!
...Ok Trixie...Abby's now only waiting to meet you :)

Happy 4th of July!!

The 4th of July holds a lot of exciting celebrations in our house. We got our puppy, Libby on July 2nd and therefore named her Liberty. And, it was a year ago yesterday that Robbie and I found out that we were expecting little Ms. Abigail!
It was through a conversation with a friend, Julie Romero, that I realized that I should probably go buy a home test and find out for sure. When I told Robbie of my suspicions he was super caught off guard and was like a deer in headlights, so I told him to shrug it off like I was just wrong and not think about it. But, I still was wondering like crazy, so I decided to go get a home test.

First of all, call me paranoid, but I was SUPER nervous buying a test at the grocery store. I don't know...it's kind of like buying condoms or something...haha. Well, the box said that the best results are when you take the test first thing in the morning. So I decided to hold off in the evening and try it in the morning. Needless to say, I could not sleep a wink that night, tossing and turning wondering if I was or not. So finally at the crack of dawn (around 5am) I went in and took the test.

Sitting there for the 5 or so minutes that it takes was the most crazy anxious I have ever been. The lines started showing up and I was analyzing the box to see "for sure" how to tell what it meant and sure enough it said that two lines meant positive. My two lines were slowing appearing and my heart was racing! I thought about a million fun ways to try and tell Robbie, but realized that I was too hyped up to hold it in for any plan I was thinking.

I climbed back into bed and just laid there next to Robbie facing him and staring him, and I guess he sensed my stare and woke up. He looked at me and half asleep asked if everything was all right. I simply said, "I just took a test," and he jumped out of his sleep-state and into alert-mode, and said, "And?!" So I told him it was positive and started to tear up and he just stared....I think he was even more stunned then I was.

Well I obviously, having not gone through this before, didn't know whether to trust a home test, so we both went to work that day wondering still if it was "for sure." I called my doctor to set up an appointment and because it was the day before 4th of July, we couldn't get in until the 5th. We went about our 4th of July last year, around a lot of our family and friends, the whole time not being able to say a single thing.

Finally after the doctor's visit and getting their results back showing I was positive, we got to tell our parents and family and friends. We told Robbie's parents through magazines. We bought two "Parents" magazines and wrote in large marker above the title, "Grand." We told my parents by buying baby food jars and going over for dinner that night, and pulling them out suggesting that we use that with dinner instead. My mom starting crying with excitement and we got hugs all around!!

It's been a fun and crazy year since then, and now we have an almost 5 month old who is starting to "talk" non stop (sounding more like a monkey or love doves) and smile at Libby. Can't wait to see what exciting thing happens around this 4th of July or the next....
